Why we practice without mirrors

Mirrors ask you to watch yourself. We’d rather you feel yourself. A short note on one of our quietest design choices.

Feeling over watching

Walk into most studios and you will meet yourself immediately: a wall of glass reflecting every wobble. We chose bare walls instead. Not because appearance does not matter, but because attention does.

Without a mirror, balance becomes something you feel in the sole of the foot, not something you check with your eyes. Alignment turns inward. Teachers guide with hands and words, and students learn to trust sensation over image.

An invitation

For one class, resist the urge to correct what you cannot see. Notice how quickly the practice becomes quieter, and how much longer that quiet lasts after you roll up the mat.
